Marocain profession mineur

Un hommage aux mineurs de fond, oscillant sans cesse entre « le fond », « le jour », le noir, la lumière.

Sont aussi honorés les migrants, venus écrire leur histoire dans un environnement si étranger au leur.

Ainsi, les oppositions graphiques noir-blanc jouxtent la couleur, rappel des tissus scintillants des vêtements traditionnels féminins : joyaux irradiant l’austérité de la brique brune ternie par le charbon.

Moroccan, coal miner by profession

A tribute to miners, constantly oscillating between “the depths”, “the daylight”, the darkness and the light.

Also honored are the immigrants who crossed borders to write their own histories in environments far removed from their homeland.

Thus, black-and-white graphics contrasts are juxtaposed with color, a reminder of the shimmering fabrics of traditional women’s clothing: jewels radiating the austerity of brown brick dulled by coal dust.

Hommage aux 1099 mineurs emportés par un coup de grisou lors de la catastrophe de Courrières en 1906.

Illustration du terril et du paysage minier dédiée aux mineurs, aux cafus, femmes trieuses de charbon, aux galibots, jeunes manoeuvres employés à tracter les berlines de charbon dans les galeries.

A tribute to the 1099 miners trapped under-ground by a blast of firedamp during the Courrières mining disaster of 1906.

A visual homage to the mining landscape and its people -the miners, the women sorting coal called cafus, the young labourers known as galibots who worked tirelessly to haul coal tubs in the galleries below.
